Matthew Allen
- Lecturer in Economics, Salford Business School, University of Salford
Matthew Nathan Allen is a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Salford. His research explores the intersection of economics and the environment, with a particular focus on integrating environmental disaster costs into national accounting frameworks through the concept of Green GDP. His current PhD examines the socio-economic impacts of the 2017 Manchester floods, highlighting how traditional GDP metrics often overlook the cascading costs of infrastructure damage, public health impacts, and long-term community disruption.
Matthew has a strong passion for economic and political analysis, both in the UK and globally. His interests include understanding why some economies succeed while others struggle, the dynamics of emerging and developing markets, and how political or social instability can shape a nation's economic trajectory. He frequently comments on issues such as inflation, fiscal policy, trade, and sustainability, aiming to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world economic challenges.
