Over 16,500 in Gaza Require Urgent Medical Help, WHO Says
(MENAFN) World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Thursday that more than 16,500 people in Gaza urgently require medical treatment.
In a post on the social media platform X, Ghebreyesus provided updates on recent medical evacuations from the region.
He reported that the WHO had successfully transferred 19 critically ill patients, along with 93 companions, from Gaza to Italy for specialized medical care. He expressed his appreciation to the Italian government, stating gratitude for its “solidarity and support.”
"We urge more countries to receive patients from Gaza, as over 16,500 people still need urgent medical care that is not available in the Strip," he emphasized.
Ghebreyesus also called for all evacuation routes to be fully opened, specifically highlighting the need for access from the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, to ensure patients in critical condition can reach the care they need.
