Twenty-seven people pass away from Typhoon Fung-Wong in Philippines

(MENAFN) The death toll from Typhoon Fung-Wong in the Philippines has risen to 27 as the storm advances toward Taiwan, according to reports.

Fatalities have been reported across ten provinces, with the majority occurring in the Cordillera Administrative Region. Two people remain missing, and at least 36 others sustained injuries in various affected areas.

Authorities stated that over 2.4 million individuals across 15 regions, including Central Luzon, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and Western Visayas, have been impacted by the storm. More than 800,000 people have been displaced and are currently taking shelter in approximately 11,800 evacuation centers throughout the regions.

Infrastructure has also suffered, with roads and bridges damaged, and many towns and cities experiencing ongoing disruptions to electricity and water supplies.

Typhoon Fung-Wong, locally referred to as Typhoon Uwan, left the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Tuesday. It is now heading toward Taiwan, where the weather authorities noted that the storm is weakening but could still bring heavy rainfall to central and southern parts of the island later in the day.

This comes just a week after Typhoon Kalmaegi struck the Philippines, resulting in at least 224 deaths, 109 people missing, and over 500 injured.
