Bridge falls at Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station in China
(MENAFN) A bridge at the Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station in southwestern China collapsed on Tuesday, authorities reported.
An official from Barkam County in Sichuan province told reports that the Hongqi Bridge at the hydropower station fell Tuesday afternoon. No casualties have been reported so far. Videos shared online showed the bridge plunging into the river below, creating a large dust cloud.
The official noted that during a patrol on Monday, personnel observed cracks on the road surface at the bridge head and slope, prompting traffic restrictions. Relevant authorities were dispatched to investigate the site further.
A statement from the local government’s WeChat account said that part of Hongqi Bridge had been under temporary traffic control since Monday due to safety concerns. China Central Television (CCTV) reported that on Monday, signs of deformation were detected on the mountain slope on the right bank of the bridge. By Tuesday afternoon, the slope instability worsened, causing the roadbed and approach bridge in that area to collapse.
