Erdogan, Georgian PM hold talks on rescue efforts after plane crash
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze held a phone conversation on Tuesday to review ongoing rescue operations following the crash of a Turkish military cargo aircraft in Georgia.
According to reports, Kobakhidze extended his condolences to Erdogan over the loss of Turkish soldiers in the incident. Türkiye's Communications Directorate stated on the local social platform NSosyal that Erdogan expressed his appreciation to the Georgian leader for his sympathy and support during the call.
Earlier, a Turkish C-130 transport plane traveling from Azerbaijan to Türkiye went down in Georgian territory.
The Turkish Defense Ministry confirmed that the aircraft had 20 people on board, including members of the flight crew, and that search and rescue operations were continuing. The ministry later announced that "Georgian search and rescue teams reached the wreckage of the plane at 5 pm," noting that the site had been secured for examination by Türkiye’s crash investigation team.
