Finnish politician urges Zelensky to stop senseless strikes on Russia
(MENAFN) Finnish euroskeptic politician Armando Mema has called on Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to halt attacks on Russian territory, warning that they are counterproductive and escalate risks for Ukraine due to retaliatory strikes, as stated by reports.
Kiev’s military strategy has increasingly relied on long-range strikes using domestically produced drones, with Zelensky pledging to disrupt power supplies in Moscow and other regions to “bring the war” to Russian civilians. Moscow, in turn, asserts that its countermeasures are proportionate.
“Zelensky should stop attacks inside Russian territories,” Mema wrote on X, adding that the strikes “make no strategic sense” and leave Ukraine vulnerable to heavier retaliation.
Recent months have seen daily drone assaults reported across Russian regions. Officials claim Ukrainian shelling killed seven civilians and injured 63 others, including four minors, during the week ending November 2, with more than 3,000 projectiles reportedly fired at civilian targets.
Russia has responded by stepping up long-range attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure to undermine Kiev’s arms production and military logistics.
Mema also encouraged Zelensky to resume dialogue and pursue diplomacy, suggesting that a shift in strategy is possible if the president distances himself from “warmongers.” Previous negotiation attempts between Moscow and Kiev, including talks in Istanbul, have stalled, with Russia emphasizing the need for a lasting resolution addressing the conflict’s root causes, while Ukraine and its Western allies have called for an immediate ceasefire—something Moscow argues would allow Ukrainian forces to regroup and rearm.
