Over one thousand trucks are stranded at Belarus-Lithuania border

(MENAFN) Belarus reported on Monday that more than 1,100 trucks remain stuck at its border with Lithuania following a unilateral closure by Vilnius.

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry stated on the social media platform X that the vehicles "are being moved to safe parking zones," adding that, for "humanitarian considerations, drivers are given the opportunity to leave."

The ministry blamed Lithuania for the disruption, claiming that "all losses stem from Vilnius’s politicized actions."

Earlier this week, Lithuania announced the closure of additional border crossings with Belarus, citing security concerns related to Russia’s war in Ukraine and Belarus’s ties with Moscow.

Tensions between Belarus and its European neighbors have intensified in recent weeks. Lithuania had shut the border last month, accusing Minsk of aiding cigarette smuggling via hot-air balloons.

In response, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree on October 31 barring Polish and Lithuanian trucks from operating in the country until the end of 2027.
