Sudan Urges Global Action Against RSF
(MENAFN) Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieldin Salem criticized the global community for its “silence” regarding ongoing “violations” carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El-Fasher, North Darfur, and Bara, North Kordofan, on Monday.
The statements were made during a meeting in Port Sudan with Amy Pope, head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), who is visiting Sudan for five days, according to an official news outlet.
Salem condemned “the international community’s silence over the ongoing violations committed by the RSF in El-Fasher and Bara" and underscored “the need for concerted international efforts to designate the RSF as a terrorist organization.”
He also reiterated the Sudanese government’s unwavering commitment to supporting humanitarian operations and protecting humanitarian workers, emphasizing ongoing collaboration with the IOM, especially in initiatives assisting the voluntary return of Sudanese migrants.
Sudan continues to grapple with an escalating humanitarian crisis amid a violent conflict between the national army and the RSF that began in April 2023, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and millions of people displaced.
Pope voiced “solidarity with Sudan following the recent RSF takeover of El-Fasher and the grave, widespread violations committed against residents and civilians, which forced large numbers to flee to the areas of al-Dabba in the Northern State and Tawila in North Darfur,” according to the news outlet.
The IOM director general confirmed the organization’s ongoing partnership with Sudan and its commitment to addressing the humanitarian needs of the newly displaced populations in al-Dabba and Tawila.
