(MENAFN) Egypt launched the opening round of its 2025 House of Representatives elections Monday, with polling stations operating through Tuesday.

The supreme elections committee confirmed 35,279,922 registered voters hold eligibility to participate during this initial electoral phase.

Fourteen governorates are conducting balloting in phase one: Giza, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, New Valley, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Aswan, Red Sea, Alexandria, Beheira, and Matrouh.

The parliamentary body consists of 568 elected seats—284 allocated via closed-list voting and 284 through individual candidate selection—supplemented by presidential appointments.

Egyptian citizens residing abroad exercised their voting rights on Nov. 7 at diplomatic missions and consular offices worldwide.

The second electoral phase is scheduled for Nov. 21-22 for expatriate voters and Nov. 24-25 for domestic voters across the remaining 13 governorates.
