(MENAFN) Nearly 2,000 civilians have fled the town of Bara and surrounding villages in Sudan’s North Kordofan state over the past three days amid escalating insecurity, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported on Sunday.

According to the agency’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), the latest exodus occurred between November 7 and 9 following renewed attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The IOM said the new displacement follows a string of assaults in Bara, Sheikan, Rahad, Um Rawaba, and Um Damm Haj Ahmed, which together have forced an estimated 38,990 people from their homes since October 26.

Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 15, 2023, when fighting erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF. Despite numerous regional and international mediation efforts, no lasting ceasefire has been achieved. The war has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions across the country.
