Egypt, Qatar Hold Talks on Gaza Ceasefire, Sudan Truce
(MENAFN) Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani held a phone discussion on Sunday addressing the latest developments in the Gaza ceasefire deal and stressing the urgent need for a humanitarian truce in Sudan.
According to Egyptian channel, the officials reviewed updates tied to US President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan, which underpins the current ceasefire arrangement.
During the call, Abdelatty and Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed their nations’ commitment to consolidating the ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the importance of respecting the outcomes of the Sharm el-Sheikh peace summit.
They also stressed the significance of maintaining “the unity of the Palestinian decision-making process” and ensuring “the Palestinian territorial unity by linking the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.”
The two leaders highlighted the need to clarify “the mandate of an international stabilization force for Gaza under the ceasefire agreement.”
The ceasefire’s first phase came into effect on Oct. 10 under Trump’s 20-point framework, which also envisions the reconstruction of Gaza and the formation of a new governing structure without Hamas.
Since October 2023, Israel has killed more than 69,000 people—mostly women and children—and injured over 170,600 in a devastating campaign in Gaza.
Abdelatty and Sheikh Mohammed additionally addressed the escalating crisis in Sudan, voicing support for the country’s unity and stability. They called for a humanitarian truce and the creation of a secure corridor to facilitate aid deliveries.
On Oct. 26, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) seized El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, reportedly committing civilian massacres, local and international groups said. The takeover raised concerns that the conflict could solidify the country’s geographic fragmentation.
Since April 15, 2023, the Sudanese army and RSF have been embroiled in a war that has resisted both regional and international mediation, killing thousands and displacing millions.
