Japan gets struck with strong 5.8 magnitude earthquake
(MENAFN) Japan experienced a significant earthquake on Monday, registering a magnitude of 5.8, as reported by seismic monitoring agencies.
The tremor occurred off the coast of Yamada in eastern Iwate province at approximately 4:23 p.m. local time (0723 GMT) and originated at a depth of 11.2 kilometers (6.9 miles).
According to official Japanese authorities, the quake reached level three on the nation’s seven-point seismic intensity scale.
“There were no immediate reports of any tsunami advisory or damage,” according to statements from officials.
This event followed a stronger tremor just a day earlier, when a magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck off Iwate province at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.21 miles). Authorities had initially issued a tsunami warning, which was later lifted.
