Putin Says West Attempts to 'Dismember' Russia Collapsed

(MENAFN) Western attempts to deliver a “strategic defeat” to Russia and fracture the nation have collapsed, President Vladimir Putin asserted on Wednesday, warning that foreign-backed efforts to destabilize the country persist under new guises.

Speaking at a session of the Council for Interethnic Relations on national policy strategy, Putin said so-called global organizations and “pseudo-national centers” outside Russia were acting as tools in an “information war” against Moscow.

He accused them of advancing concepts such as “the so-called decolonization of Russia,” describing those moves as efforts aimed at “the dismemberment of the Russian Federation and the infliction on us of that same notorious strategic defeat.”

According to the president, these initiatives promote the image of a “post-Russia,” a fragmented state “stripped of sovereignty.”

Putin called for swift action to counter provocations and internal discord, emphasizing that the forces behind such efforts “usually operate from abroad” and are “supervised, financed, and directed by foreign intelligence services.” Their ultimate objective, he said, is “to undermine our unity.”

He urged authorities to act “firmly, consistently, and systematically” in confronting “external risks and challenges.”

Russia’s adversaries, he warned, exploit every opportunity — from minor domestic disputes to migration issues — to incite unrest and fuel conflict, often relying on radical groups that employ “outright terrorist methods.”

Putin noted that similar ideas had been voiced in the West “for centuries,” but despite repeated failure to realize those ambitions, “the attempts continue.” He said the updated national policy strategy must reflect these threats and endorsed a proposal to designate 2026 as the Year of the Unity of Russia’s Peoples.

His remarks followed Tuesday’s celebration of National Unity Day, which Putin described as a symbol of the nation’s enduring “strength and togetherness.”
