Germany’s Industrial Output Rebounds in September
(MENAFN) Industrial production in Germany increased by 1.3% on a monthly basis in September, reversing the trend from the previous month, according to data released Wednesday by the country’s statistical authority.
This rebound offset August’s 4.3% monthly drop, Destatis reported, whereas market analysts had anticipated a 3% rise for September.
The recovery was primarily fueled by a substantial expansion in the automotive sector, Germany's largest industrial segment, which surged 12.3% in September after a 16.7% decline in August.
The notable growth in the automotive industry was attributed to prior annual plant shutdowns for holidays and adjustments in production schedules.
Production of computer, electronic, and optical products also experienced a boost, registering a 5.1% increase during the month.
Conversely, the manufacture of machinery and equipment saw a decrease of 1.1% in September.
When excluding energy and construction, industrial output fell 1.9% on a monthly basis in September.
Destatis noted that "within industry, increases were reported in all three major groups.
The production of capital goods rose by 3.8% and that of both consumer and intermediate goods by 0.2%. Outside industry, energy production was up 1.3%, while production in construction declined by 0.9%."
On a yearly basis, compared with September 2024, industrial production excluding energy and construction was down 1.2% in September 2025.
