N. Korea accuses US of maintaining “hostile policy” toward Pyongyang
(MENAFN) North Korea on Thursday denounced the United States for pursuing a “hostile policy” and vowed to take “proper measures” in response to newly imposed sanctions, according to reports.
Kim Un Chol, North Korea’s vice foreign minister responsible for US affairs, described the latest sanctions as the fifth such measure since the current US administration took office. “The U.S. has fully betrayed again its wicked nature to be hostile towards the DPRK till the end,” Kim stated, referring to North Korea by its official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Kim also cautioned that Washington should not expect its approach, characterized by "pressure, appeasement, threat and blackmail," to influence Pyongyang’s policies in the future.
The US Treasury Department announced Tuesday that it had sanctioned eight individuals and two entities linked to laundering proceeds from North Korea’s "illicit schemes," including cybercrime activities and the exploitation of overseas IT workers.
Kim asserted that the sanctions would not alter North Korea’s stance or strategy toward the US.
“The U.S. needs to pay attention to the fact that there is no possibility for it to change the present strategic situation between the DPRK and the U.S. in its favor, no matter how desperately it may mobilize all its sanctions,” he warned.
