Syria's Leader Set to Participate in COP30 Climate Summit in Brazil

(MENAFN) In a groundbreaking diplomatic move, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa is set to participate in the COP30 climate summit taking place in Belem, Brazil, according to an official announcement from the presidency on Wednesday.

The presidency's media office confirmed that Sharaa will undertake an official state visit to Brazil spanning November 6–7, where he will join the global climate conference scheduled to run from November 6 through 21. The summit is expected to draw dozens of heads of state and government leaders from around the world.

The presidency's media office highlighted that this marks a historic milestone, as it will be the first time a Syrian president attends a UN climate conference since the series began in 1995, the office said.

The diplomatic agenda extends beyond Brazil, with Sharaa expected to travel to Washington following the conclusion of the summit. There, he is scheduled to hold talks with US President Donald Trump, signaling a potential thaw in relations between the two nations.
