Pakistani leader seeks expansion of collaboration with Qatar

(MENAFN) During a visit to Doha, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday offered to broaden defense collaboration with Qatar, including in defense production. Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani welcomed the proposal and said he would direct authorities to begin discussions immediately, according to a statement from Zardari’s Pakistan Peoples Party.

The leaders also discussed enhancing cooperation in agriculture and food security, while reaffirming the “historic and brotherly” ties between Pakistan and Qatar. Zardari praised Qatar’s growing global role in dialogue and humanitarian diplomacy, highlighting its efforts in securing a Gaza ceasefire last month and its contributions to peace talks in Afghanistan.

Additionally, Zardari welcomed Qatar’s increased investment in Pakistan and expressed optimism for continued growth in bilateral cooperation. Sheikh Tamim indicated he plans to visit Pakistan soon. Zardari began his three-day visit on Tuesday to attend the World Social Development Conference.
