King of Jordan welcomes UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs
(MENAFN) His Majesty King Abdullah met on Tuesday with UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Yvette Cooper, with Crown Prince Hussein also in attendance.
The discussion focused on strengthening the longstanding ties between Jordan and the UK, particularly in trade, industry, and defense, according to reports. The King emphasized the urgent need to implement the agreement ending the Gaza conflict and to bolster international humanitarian aid to the area.
Highlighting growing tensions, His Majesty warned against escalating actions against Palestinians in the West Bank and violations of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
He praised the UK’s role in promoting peace and its recent recognition of the State of Palestine in September.
The King also underscored the importance of supporting Syria and Lebanon in preserving their security, stability, and territorial sovereignty. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Royal Court Director Alaa Batayneh were also present at the meeting.
