Iran Says Negotiations with U.S. Limited to Nuclear Issue

(MENAFN) Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday emphasized that any potential negotiations with the United States (U.S.) would address only Tehran's nuclear program, according to an Iranian news agency.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting, Araghchi clarified Iran's stance on future talks with Washington.

In recent months, the U.S. has repeatedly demanded that Iran halt uranium enrichment and curb its missile program—requests Tehran has consistently rejected, describing both issues as non-negotiable.

"Our position has always been clear: if any negotiation starts, it will be only over the nuclear issue," Araghchi said.

During a recent interview media, Araghchi reiterated that Tehran is not seeking direct talks with Washington but suggested that an agreement could be reached through indirect negotiations.

He stressed Iran’s willingness to engage in discussions aimed at resolving concerns over its nuclear program.

Araghchi also said it is possible to reach a fair agreement, but criticized Washington for imposing "unacceptable" conditions. He underlined that Iran will not negotiate its missile program and will not cease uranium enrichment.

The two countries had previously conducted five rounds of indirect talks on Iran’s nuclear program and the lifting of U.S. sanctions. A sixth round was imminent when Israeli strikes hit multiple Iranian sites—including nuclear and military facilities—on June 13, resulting in the deaths of senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians.

On June 22, U.S. forces carried out bombings targeting the Iranian nuclear facilities at Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan.
