Kuwait Amir Representative: Global Cooperation Vital To Confront Challenges, Achieve Development
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
DOHA, Nov 4 (KUNA) -- Representative of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, participated Tuesday in the Second World Summit for Social Development held in Qatar.
Delivering Kuwait's address at the summit, His Highness emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation and responsible partnerships to address contemporary global challenges and to consolidate peace and stability across societies.
He said the summit reaffirms global commitment to the essence of the 1995 Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development, which laid the foundation for the UN Millennium Declaration, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the Pact for the Future.
The Prime Minister conveyed greetings from His Highness the Amir and expressed appreciation to Qatar's leadership, government, and people for their warm hospitality and successful organization of the summit.
He also endorsed the statement of the Group of 77 and China, noting that the world is undergoing profound transformations; shaped by demographic shifts, technological advances, and economic disruptions that are redefining human development and work.
His Highness stressed that no single nation can face these challenges alone, emphasizing the need for multilateral cooperation to safeguard the human dimension of development in a rapidly changing world.
He reaffirmed Kuwait's commitment to shared priorities, including eradicating poverty, promoting decent and productive work for all, strengthening social inclusion, and reducing inequalities to build secure and stable societies where people are the central focus of progress.
Highlighting the achievements of the first World Summit for Social Development, His Highness the Prime Minister noted its success in advancing education, healthcare, and social protection, as well as reducing unemployment.
However, he cautioned that progress remains uneven, with widening disparities between prosperous and struggling nations, and with digital divides deepening global inequalities in access to knowledge and opportunity.
Political instability and climate crises, he added, continue to erode hard-won development gains, reminding the world that equitable development can only be sustained through a collective will that transcends politics and focuses on humanity.
The Premier outlined Kuwait's national experience as a model of human-centered development grounded in justice, equality, and equal opportunity.
Through comprehensive educational, healthcare, housing, and employment policies, Kuwait has ensured a dignified and secure life for its citizens, empowering them as partners in the nation's progress.
He said this approach reflects Kuwait's deep commitment to the objectives of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and its goal of building a resilient, adaptive, and inclusive society.
Reaffirming Kuwait's global leadership in humanitarian and development fields, His Highness noted that the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, established in 1961, has financed development projects in 107 countries worldwide, with total contributions exceeding KD 9.9 billion.
This, he said, reflects Kuwait's enduring humanitarian message and its dedication to supporting peace and development through tangible partnerships.
He added that Kuwait's development experience embodies a social contract founded on justice and human dignity, making it a consistent partner in shaping a future based on solidarity and shared responsibility.
Concluding his address, His Highness the Prime Minister expressed confidence that the Doha summit would produce concrete outcomes renewing international commitment to the UN's three foundational pillars; peace and security, human rights, and sustainable development.
He called for deeper cooperation, stronger understanding, and broader solidarity to achieve inclusive and equitable social development that restores human rights and global balance. (end)
