(MENAFN) Israeli forces launched airstrikes in Gaza on Tuesday, even as a fragile ceasefire that began on Oct. 10 remained in place. The military said the operation targeted a militant who had approached troops in the northern part of the enclave.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the individual had crossed the so-called "Yellow Line," a boundary that marks areas where Israeli forces are stationed.

"Shortly after identification, the terrorist was eliminated to remove the threat," the IDF said in a statement. The military added that troops under the Southern Command "remain deployed in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and will continue to act against any immediate threat."

Although the ceasefire has significantly reduced large-scale Israeli operations, smaller strikes have persisted almost daily. Gaza's Health Ministry reported that at least 238 Palestinians have been killed and roughly 600 wounded by Israeli fire since Oct. 11, pushing the overall death toll from Israeli strikes since October 2023 to nearly 70,000.
