France strongly denounces atrocities committed by RSF in El-Fasher

(MENAFN) France has issued a strong condemnation of the ethnically driven atrocities reportedly committed by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the city of El-Fasher, demanding justice and an immediate halt to the group’s military campaign.

According to statements from the French Foreign Ministry, the RSF has been accused of carrying out executions, massacres, sexual assaults, and widespread attacks on humanitarian workers, alongside looting, abductions, and forced displacement of civilians in North Darfur.

Paris urged the RSF to immediately end its operations in the region and refrain from advancing into areas sheltering civilians who fled earlier violence. “Those responsible must be brought to justice,” the ministry said.

France also pressed the RSF to adhere to its international legal obligations and fully uphold the Declaration for the Protection of Civilians in Sudan, signed in Jeddah in May 2023.
Calling on all warring sides to ensure civilian safety and unimpeded humanitarian access, France emphasized the urgent need to protect vulnerable populations, especially in the city of Tawila.

The ministry criticized Sudanese authorities for expelling the World Food Programme’s country director and operations chief, warning that such measures obstruct critical humanitarian operations.

Reiterating its backing for Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, France called on external powers to halt military aid to either side and to avoid any action that could intensify the conflict.

Reports indicate that on Oct. 26, the RSF captured El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, and committed large-scale ethnic killings, raising fears of Sudan’s potential partition. The ongoing civil war between the RSF and Sudan’s army, which erupted in April 2023, has left thousands dead, forced millions from their homes, and created one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.
