Putin Issues Order to Establish Border Hubs with China, N. Korea

(MENAFN) Russian leader Vladimir Putin has directed his administration to establish multimodal transportation and logistics centers along the Chinese and North Korean frontiers, a move aimed at bolstering infrastructure and commercial corridors throughout the Far East, the Kremlin announced Tuesday.

The directive emerged from a broader set of mandates issued after the Eastern Economic Forum, where Putin additionally charged the Cabinet with finalizing a comprehensive strategy for rare earth metal extraction and manufacturing by December 1st.

Under the sweeping development plan, authorities must establish no fewer than 10 industrial, technological, and business parks across the Far Eastern Federal District and Arctic zones before 2030, designed to bolster small and medium-sized enterprises throughout these remote territories.

Mortgage assistance programs targeting Far Eastern and Arctic residents will undergo significant expansion, extending benefits to households welcoming a third child or beyond after January 1, 2024, public education sector workers, and purchasers of existing housing stock in municipalities lacking new residential construction projects.

The administration and Central Bank face a July 15, 2026 deadline to deliver recommendations for establishing a Far Eastern financial hub anchored by the Eastern Exchange, signaling Moscow's ambition to create an alternative economic powerhouse in Russia's eastern territories.
