Qatari Emir Urges Political Resolution for Sudan, Gaza
(MENAFN) Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani denounced the violent acts carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El-Fasher, the capital of Sudan’s North Darfur state, urging an immediate political solution to resolve the protracted conflict.
“We express our collective shock at the horrific atrocities committed in the city of El-Fasher in Sudan’s Darfur region and reaffirm our condemnation of these acts in the strongest terms,” Tamim stated during his opening address at the launch of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha.
On October 26, the RSF seized control of El-Fasher and reportedly carried out ethnic-based massacres against civilians, according to local and international organizations, raising concerns that the assault may further deepen Sudan’s territorial divisions.
“Sudan has endured the horrors of this conflict for over two and a half years. It is time to bring it to an end and reach a political solution that safeguards Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” the Qatari emir emphasized.
Since April 15, 2023, clashes between the Sudanese army and the RSF have escalated into a civil war that has claimed thousands of lives, displaced millions, and triggered one of the globe’s most severe humanitarian crises.
Turning to the Gaza Strip, Sheikh Tamim highlighted the urgent need for international assistance “to address the catastrophic consequences” of two years of Israeli attacks in the territory.
He called on the global community “to redouble its efforts and provide support to the Palestinian people for reconstruction and to meet their essential needs.”
