Ukrainian soldiers captured the militants during fierce battles on the Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, and Siversk fronts.

The investigation established that the convicted individuals were residents of territories in eastern Ukraine temporarily occupied by Russia who voluntarily joined the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces.

Among them was a machine gunner from Russia's 125th Rifle Regiment who initially fired on Ukrainian positions in the Kherson region and later helped fortify enemy strongholds near the village of Ivanivka in the Donetsk region.

Another five served in the 5th Motor Rifle Brigade and units of the 1st Army Corps of the Russian Armed Forces, aiding the enemy in attempts to seize the town of Kurakhove, where they were eventually captured.

The court found them guilty under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 111 (high treason) and Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (collaboration).
