Trump claims Russia, China are testing nuclear weapons

(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump asserted that Russia and China are conducting nuclear weapons tests, saying North Korea is not the only country engaging in such activities. His remarks came during an interview broadcast Sunday.

"Russia's testing, and China's testing, but they don't talk about it," Trump said after host Norah O'Donnell noted that North Korea is currently the only nation known to be testing nuclear weapons.

The comments came just three days after Trump directed the Pentagon to restart U.S. nuclear weapons testing for the first time in more than three decades.

"Other countries are testing. We're the only country that doesn't test, and I don't want to be the only country that doesn't test," he stated, emphasizing that it is not always clear where such tests are taking place.

Although he insisted that he has no intention of using nuclear weapons, Trump defended the decision to resume testing, arguing it is necessary to ensure their reliability. "Doesn't it sort of make sense? You make nuclear weapons, and then you don't test. How are you gonna do that? How are you gonna know if they work?" he said.

The president went on to stress the United States’ nuclear dominance, claiming it has "tremendous nuclear power," greater than that of any other country.

"Russia's second. China's a very distant third, but they'll be even in five years," Trump said, adding that both countries are expanding their arsenals rapidly. "You know, they're making them rapidly, and I think we should do something about denuclearization... We have enough nuclear weapons to blow up the world 150 times. Russia has a lot of nuclear weapons, and China will have a lot," he added.
