Estonian FM says Turkey is critical partner on security, policy levels
(MENAFN) Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna described Türkiye on Saturday as “a very important and very strong strategic partner on security and policy levels,” emphasizing the deepening ties between the two nations, according to reports.
Speaking about bilateral relations, regional security issues, and ongoing conflicts such as the Russia-Ukraine war and the Israel-Palestine situation, Tsahkna noted that Estonia and Türkiye have a long history of excellent cooperation, which continues to grow. He highlighted Türkiye’s role as a critical partner in both strategic and political matters, while also pointing out its appeal for Estonian families, particularly during harsh winter conditions at home.
Tsahkna further emphasized that economic collaboration is increasingly important alongside security cooperation, saying that Türkiye provides “security-level cooperation” to Estonia. He mentioned that Turkish fighter jets are set to participate in the Baltic Air Policing mission again next year.
Regarding defense industry ties, he noted that Estonia and Türkiye are “cooperating more and more” in this sector, with Türkiye emerging as “one of the largest defense procurement partners” for Estonia. As NATO allies, the two countries maintain close coordination, with Tsahkna remarking that Türkiye “plays a very important role in stabilizing the situation in the region.”
He also referenced his recent visit to Azerbaijan, highlighting Türkiye’s active support for peace and stability efforts between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as its involvement in strategic trade corridor investments.
