Sudan Doctors: RSF Imprisons Thousands of Civilians in El-Fasher

(MENAFN) A Sudanese medical organization has leveled serious accusations against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Sunday, alleging the militia is imprisoning thousands of civilians within El-Fasher, North Darfur's capital, while systematically preventing their escape.

The Sudan Doctors Network issued a statement charging that the rebel group "continues to detain thousands of civilians inside the city of El-Fasher, and prevent them from leaving after confiscating all means of transportation used to evacuate displaced people."

According to the medical group, the paramilitary force has turned back residents attempting evacuation, including individuals wounded by gunfire and others suffering from malnutrition.

The network characterized conditions within the besieged city as "extremely dire," pointing to critical medicine shortages and a devastating deficit of medical personnel—some of whom remain detained or abducted by the RSF.

Medical officials demanded "the immediate release of all civilians, the opening of safe corridors for their evacuation, and allowing humanitarian organizations to bury the bodies that remain scattered on the outskirts of the city."

The RSF captured El-Fasher on October 26, carrying out what local and international organizations termed "massacres" against civilians. The offensive has intensified fears that Sudan faces permanent territorial fragmentation.

On Wednesday, RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti) acknowledged that "violations" had occurred by his forces in El-Fasher, stating that investigation committees had been formed.

Sudan has been engulfed in warfare between the national army and the RSF since April 15, 2023—a conflict that regional and international mediation efforts have failed to resolve. UN and local sources report the fighting has claimed 20,000 lives and forced over 15 million people into displacement, both as refugees and internally displaced persons.
