(MENAFN) As part of a ceasefire arrangement, the Palestinian group Hamas handed over the remains of three Israeli hostages to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Sunday evening, according to reports.

A statement from the Israeli military confirmed that the coffins had been transferred to the Red Cross and were on their way to Israeli troops stationed in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas had previously stated that it would return the bodies of three captives it had recovered from under the rubble, a move seen as part of ongoing humanitarian coordination amid the fragile ceasefire.

The transfer comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with both sides engaged in delicate negotiations to maintain the temporary truce and facilitate humanitarian measures.
