Russia Imposes Sanctions on Ukraine's PM Yulia Svyrydenko
(MENAFN) Russia has imposed sweeping economic sanctions on Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, marking a dramatic escalation in financial warfare between the two nations, according to an official decree released through the government portal Saturday.
The expanded blacklist targets multiple high-ranking Ukrainian officials in key economic positions, including Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko and Oleksii Sobolev, who oversees the combined Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture.
Under the punitive measures, Moscow will immediately freeze all non-cash funds, uncertificated securities, and property holdings these officials possess within Russian territory. The decree also enforces a strict prohibition preventing the sanctioned individuals from moving any capital beyond Russia's borders.
Svyrydenko secured parliamentary confirmation as Ukraine's prime minister through the Verkhovna Rada in July. Before ascending to the nation's second-highest office, she held dual roles as first deputy prime minister while simultaneously heading the economy ministry.
The timing of these sanctions underscores Russia's continued strategy of targeting Ukraine's economic leadership structure amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
