Over Thirty-Five Reported Dead in Vietnam Flood Crisis
(MENAFN) Catastrophic rainfall and flooding across central Vietnam have left 37 dead, five missing and 78 wounded, the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority announced Monday.
Floodwaters continue engulfing more than 12,600 residences throughout the devastated region, while 103 additional structures were completely obliterated or carried away by raging torrents. Another 451 homes sustained significant damage, official reports confirmed.
The relentless deluge has drowned nearly 7,900 hectares of agricultural land, threatening food security in affected areas. Farmers face mounting losses as over 64,000 livestock and poultry perished in the floodwaters.
Critical infrastructure has suffered extensive destruction, with irrigation networks and riverbank stabilization systems severely compromised. Authorities are racing to assess the full scope of structural damage as water levels remain dangerously elevated.
Emergency response teams continue search and rescue operations for the five individuals still unaccounted for, while medical personnel treat dozens of injured survivors. The disaster underscores Vietnam's vulnerability to extreme weather events that routinely batter the nation's central provinces during monsoon season.
