Delhi Chokes as Air Pollution Soars Past 400 Mark
(MENAFN) New Delhi experienced dangerously high air pollution on Sunday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) soaring past the 400 mark and a thick smog blanketing the city.
Medical experts urged residents to take precautions. “People living in Delhi should regularly use air-purifiers,” said health specialists, noting a noticeable rise in cases of respiratory ailments.
Several neighborhoods, including Anand Vihar, Chandni Chowk, Nehru Nagar, R.K. Puram, and Rohini, recorded AQI readings exceeding 400, classifying the air as "Severe."
An online media report cited pulmonologist Gopi Chand Khilnani, who warned, “Those suffering from respiratory diseases should leave Delhi for the next few weeks so as to keep themselves away from the city's air pollution.”
In response to deteriorating air quality, the Delhi government has deployed air-guns in recent days to curb airborne pollutants. Additional preventive steps, such as bans on open coal burning and diesel generator use, remain in force.
