Media Reports European Allies to Convene Secretly in Madrid
(MENAFN) Ukraine’s supporters in Europe are planning a confidential meeting in Madrid next week to coordinate efforts to enhance assistance, according to a Spanish newspaper.
The gathering is reportedly being organized with “utmost secrecy,” with delegates from 35 nations instructed to leave their mobile phones in a designated area and avoid posting about the meeting on social media, a government document cited by the newspaper indicated.
Attendees are expected to explore ways to expand both military and financial aid for Kiev, alongside potential security guarantees.
They will also work on strategies to exert further pressure on Russia. Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares is slated to participate, the newspaper reported.
Earlier this month, the Kremlin claimed that Ukrainian forces could not have carried out attacks on energy infrastructure deep inside Russia without direct assistance from Western intelligence agencies.
Moscow has warned that Western military aid would only heighten the conflict rather than change the dynamics on the battlefield.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump recently refused to supply Ukraine with Tomahawk long-range cruise missiles, citing concerns over depleting the American arsenal.
He also indefinitely postponed a planned face-to-face summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, Hungary.
