Ukraine’s European Supporters to Hold Confidential Meeting in Madrid
(MENAFN) Ukraine’s European supporters are set to hold a confidential meeting in Madrid next week to coordinate enhanced support, media reported on Friday.
According to the Spanish newspaper, organizers are keeping “utmost secrecy” for the November 4 gathering. A government document cited by the outlet instructs delegates from 35 countries to leave their cell phones in a designated room and avoid posting about the meeting on social media.
Discussions are expected to focus on boosting military and financial assistance for Kiev, exploring potential security guarantees, and coordinating additional pressure on Russia. Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares is scheduled to attend, media said.
Earlier this month, the Kremlin claimed Ukrainian forces could not have struck energy infrastructure deep inside Russia without direct backing from Western intelligence. Moscow has warned that Western military support risks escalating the conflict without changing the battlefield outcome.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump recently declined to supply Tomahawk long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine, citing concerns about depleting the US arsenal. He also indefinitely postponed a planned in-person summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, Hungary.
