Germany’s Merz Emphasizes Expanding Strategic Partnerships

(MENAFN) German Chancellor Friedrich Merz urged the establishment of "strategic partnerships" to confront emerging global challenges during his trip to Ankara on Thursday.

"We are entering a new geopolitical phase. Therefore, we must expand our strategic partnerships," the conservative leader stated in a social media message at the start of his official itinerary.

He further highlighted the significance of strengthening ties with Türkiye, saying, "We should make even better use of the enormous potential of our relations with Türkiye. We can build on a strong foundation here."

Merz, the head of the Conservative party and the architect of Germany’s new coalition government formed in May, embarked on his first official visit to Ankara on Thursday.

Earlier in the week, his spokesperson characterized the trip as highly significant, emphasizing that it would serve as a chance to deliberate on essential bilateral and global issues, as well as foster deeper collaboration in security and foreign affairs, according to a media outlet.
