Real Madrid Thrashes Valencia, Holds Firm atop La Liga

(MENAFN) Real Madrid has cemented its position atop La Liga following a commanding 4-0 demolition of Valencia at home Saturday.

The contest was effectively decided by halftime, with the hosts establishing a dominant 3-0 advantage. Kylian Mbappe initiated the onslaught from the penalty spot after a handball violation inside Valencia's box.

Mbappe struck again at the 30-minute mark, delivering a clinical finish off Arda Guler's cross to double the margin. Jude Bellingham extended the lead to three after Vinicius Jr saw his penalty attempt denied by the goalkeeper.

Real Madrid's overwhelming superiority was punctuated when Alvaro Carreras unleashed a strike from an acute angle into the Valencia net, making it 4-0 with eight minutes remaining.

Atletico Madrid dispatched Sevilla 3-0, with Julian Alvarez's 64th-minute penalty breaking the deadlock for the home side.

Thiago Almada added a second goal in the 77th minute, and Antoine Griezmann sealed the victory in stoppage time.

Villarreal recorded a 4-0 triumph over Rayo Vallecano, who arrived on the east coast following three straight victories.

Gerard Moreno broke through midway into the opening half for the hosts with a thunderous angled effort, while Alberto Moleiro, Santi Comesana and Ayoze Perez emphatically confirmed Villarreal's superiority after the interval.

A stoppage-time strike from Jon Gorrotxategi secured Real Sociedad a dramatic 3-2 victory in the Basque regional derby against Athletic Club, who fought back from two separate deficits.

Brais Mendez opened the scoring after goalkeeper Unai Simon had parried his first attempt, but Gorka Guruzeta equalized before the break.

Goncalo Guedes restored Real Sociedad's advantage, before Robert Navarro scored from point-blank range against his previous club, with the decisive goal arriving after the ball fell fortuitously to Gorrotxategi following two teammates' wayward attempts.

Getafe defeated Girona 2-1 on Friday night thanks to goals from Mario Martin after 72 minutes and Borja Mayoral with four minutes to play. The consolation for bottom side Girona came from a Cristhian Stuani penalty deep into injury time.
