Horror Writer Steven Van Patten Brings His Zombie Country Star To Life In New Music Video 'Dead Man Country'

(MENAFN- EIN Presswire) EINPresswire/ -- Acclaimed horror writer Steven Van Patten (author of Brookwater's Curse and Hell at the Way Station) takes his dark imagination to the screen with the release of his latest creative project, the animated music video“Dead Man Country.”

The hauntingly original track is inspired by Van Patten's short story of the same name, first featured in the 2022 anthology Blackened Roots (Mocha Memoirs Press) - a celebrated collection of zombie tales written exclusively by Black authors.

At the center of Dead Man Country is Rusty C. Nail, a zombified country singer whose career takes an unexpected twist when he auditions for“America's Next Country Star.” When the judges uncover Nail's undead secret, he delivers a chilling performance explaining his fate - a ballad born of heartbreak, damnation, and redemption.

“Rusty was kicked out of heaven,” Van Patten says.“He's not your typical zombie - he's got a guitar, a story to tell, and maybe a soul left to save.”

Beyond the music video, Dead Man Country expands the ever-evolving universe of Van Patten's supernatural saga. The character Rusty C. Nail ties into the author's acclaimed Brookwater's Curse series - a world inhabited by vampires, werewolves, and rakshasas. Fans can expect Rusty to make a full-fledged appearance in Brookwater's Curse, Volume IV, and he also makes a cameo in The Friends and Foes of Zenobia, an anthology curated by author Denise Tapscott.

The Dead Man Country video stands as a self-contained experience for now, but Van Patten hints that it could serve as a creative bridge to a live-action adaptation.

“This project is about pushing horror storytelling in new directions,” Van Patten adds.“It's horror, humor, and heart all mixed together - and Rusty's not done singing yet.”
