Safadi, German counterpart hold talks on ties, regional developments

(MENAFN) Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on Wednesday to discuss strengthening Jordan-Germany relations and regional developments.

The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in areas such as water, investment, education, vocational training, tourism, and defense. Safadi praised Germany’s ongoing support for Jordan’s development projects and its assistance in managing regional crises.

They discussed maintaining the ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the need for security, stability, reconstruction, and a political framework for a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution. Both ministers highlighted the importance of timely humanitarian aid delivery to all areas of Gaza and agreed to continue bilateral cooperation in these efforts.

On the West Bank, Safadi called for halting Israeli actions that undermine the two-state solution, including settlement expansion, land confiscation, economic restrictions, and attempts to alter the status of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The meeting also covered Syria, with Safadi reiterating Jordan’s support for reconstruction that preserves Syria’s unity, security, and sovereignty, while condemning Israeli attacks on Syrian territory. He stressed that a stable Syria contributes to regional and broader Middle Eastern and European security.

Both ministers agreed to continue consultation and coordination to further develop bilateral relations and address shared concerns.
