Syria Recognizes Kosovo as Independent State

(MENAFN) Syria officially acknowledged Kosovo as a sovereign and independent nation on Wednesday, following a trilateral gathering in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the meeting between Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Kosovan President Vjosa Osmani concentrated on strengthening bilateral ties and mutual understanding, including matters of mutual recognition and collaboration.

“In this context, the Syrian Arab Republic announces its official recognition of the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, based on its belief in the right of peoples to self-determination and its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the Balkans and the world,” the statement affirmed.

Syria highlighted that the decision corresponds with its broader approach of expanding engagement and openness with nations globally, aiming to serve shared interests and reinforce friendship among peoples.

The ministry also conveyed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s contribution in facilitating dialogue and understanding, “which helped create favorable conditions for Syria’s recognition of Kosovo.”

Damascus indicated that it anticipates establishing diplomatic relations with Kosovo at the earliest opportunity and fostering cooperation in political, economic, and cultural spheres to benefit both nations and their citizens.
