Eurozone Economy Posts 0.2 Percent Growth in Q3
(MENAFN) The euro area economy expanded by 0.2% in the third quarter, surpassing analysts’ expectations, according to preliminary figures released Thursday by Eurostat.
The result marks a modest acceleration from the 0.1% increase recorded in the previous quarter — a pace most economists had projected to repeat between July and September.
Across the broader European Union, gross domestic product (GDP) climbed 0.3% during the same three-month period, the data showed.
Among individual member states, Sweden led growth with a 1.1% quarterly gain, followed by Portugal at 0.8% and Czechia at 0.7%. Lithuania registered the steepest decline, with GDP shrinking 0.2%, while Ireland and Finland each slipped 0.1%.
On a year-over-year basis, the eurozone’s economy grew 1.3%, compared with 1.5% across the entire EU, Eurostat reported.
The eurozone encompasses 20 countries that share the euro as their official currency.
