Syria formally recognizes Kosovo as independent state
(MENAFN) Syria formally recognized Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state on Wednesday following a trilateral meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The discussions involved Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Kosovan President Vjosa Osmani, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties, mutual understanding, and cooperation.
“In this context, the Syrian Arab Republic announces its official recognition of the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, based on its belief in the right of peoples to self-determination and its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the Balkans and the world,” the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry highlighted that the decision reflects Syria’s broader approach of fostering international cooperation and promoting friendly relations between nations. It also acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s role in facilitating dialogue that paved the way for recognition.
Damascus indicated its intention to establish diplomatic relations with Kosovo promptly and to develop collaboration across political, economic, and cultural areas to benefit both countries and their citizens.
