Floods Leave Nine Dead, Five Missing in Vietnam
(MENAFN) At least nine people have been killed and five others remain unaccounted for as relentless flooding devastates central Vietnam, the government’s official portal reported on Wednesday.
The Office of the National Civil Defence Steering Committee confirmed six deaths in Da Nang, one in Hue, and two in Quang Ngai province.
During a meeting with local authorities to coordinate post-flood recovery, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh described the disaster as “an exceptionally severe flood event in central Vietnam,” noting that numerous areas had seen record-breaking rainfall.
According to Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Duc Thang, the floods submerged 32 of 40 communes and wards in Hue and Da Nang, impacting more than 110,000 households.
The prime minister called on regional officials to continue relocating residents from landslide- and flash flood-prone zones and to guarantee adequate provisions of food, essential goods, clean water, and disinfectants for affected communities.
