(MENAFN) Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi met Wednesday with Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel to discuss expanding cooperation in education, tourism, trade, industry, and water management. The two ministers agreed on a joint action plan under the strategic partnership between Jordan and the EU.

Safadi highlighted the historic ties between the two countries, marking 74 years of diplomatic relations and noting that the Netherlands is Jordan’s largest European importer. He praised Dutch support for development projects in Jordan, particularly in the water sector, and announced a forthcoming comprehensive review to assess and expand cooperation.

The ministers also addressed regional developments, focusing on Gaza and broader Middle East stability. Both stressed the importance of maintaining the Gaza ceasefire, ensuring humanitarian aid delivery, and moving toward the second phase of the agreement. Safadi condemned Israeli actions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, reaffirming that a two-state solution along pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital, remains the only path to lasting peace. He also highlighted Jordan’s role as a hub for aid to Gaza and welcomed US proposals to end the conflict while preventing Palestinian displacement.

Van Weel underscored the strength of Dutch–Jordanian relations, reaffirming support for the Gaza ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and a two-state solution. He highlighted new Dutch investments, including €31 million or $35.92 million for the National Water Carrier Project and €100 million or $115.87 million for broader water management initiatives. He also praised Jordan’s regional leadership and stressed adherence to international law, noting the Netherlands’ measures against Israeli ministers accused of violating norms.

Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration and joint efforts to advance bilateral and regional interests.
