(MENAFN) The Israeli military struck an area in Syria’s southern Daraa province Wednesday evening, deploying three types of munitions, local sources reported. The attack targeted a zone northwest of the village of Koya, accompanied by intermittent gunfire, according to a state-run broadcaster. The report did not specify any casualties or damage.

This latest shelling echoes a deadly strike in March when Israeli bombardment killed five individuals in the same village.

Following the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime last December, Israel intensified its control over the Syrian Golan Heights, notably seizing the demilitarized buffer zone. This action breached the 1974 disengagement agreement with Syria.

Taking advantage of Assad’s fall, Israel launched hundreds of airstrikes targeting Syrian military infrastructure, including fighter jets, missile batteries, and air defense systems, according to multiple reports.

Assad, who ruled Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia in December, ending the Baath Party’s decades-long hold on power since 1963. In January, a new transitional government led by Sharaa was established.
