Planned Violence at Dublin Protest Targets Police

(MENAFN) Violence erupted during a demonstration outside a hotel housing asylum seekers in Dublin, and Irish authorities have confirmed it was organized online.

Six individuals were detained, with five facing charges after Gardaí (Irish police) were attacked with bricks, fireworks, and glass bottles at the Citywest Hotel in Saggart on Tuesday evening.

The protest was sparked by a reported sexual assault of a young girl in the area early on Monday morning. Garda Ch Supt Michael McNulty, the commander at the scene, stated that the violence was instigated by "disparate groups on social media, who stir up hatred and violence."

According to a media outlet, approximately 2,000 people participated in the demonstration, which included both peaceful protesters and those inciting unrest.

Gardaí noted the presence of youths riding horse-drawn sulkies (carts) and scramblers, alongside "violent thugs who were there purely to incite violence and promote fear."
