Tropical Storm Fengshan Causes Displacement in Philippines


(MENAFN) Tropical storm Fengshan departed from the Philippines on Monday morning, bringing extensive flooding and impacting more than 130,000 individuals after enduring several days of heavy rains and powerful winds, according to reports from local news outlets.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced in its updated statement on Monday that at least seven people lost their lives and two remain missing following the assault of Fengshan, known locally as "Ramil," on the northern and central regions of the Philippines. This information was reported by a local English newspaper.

Approximately 37,825 families, totaling 133,196 people, were affected by the storm across nine provinces and 35 cities and municipalities.

At least 13,710 individuals were forced to leave their homes, with 7,511 staying in 166 evacuation centers, while 6,199 sought refuge elsewhere.

The Philippines regularly experiences tropical storms, with an average of 20 typhoons striking the country annually.
