(MENAFN) Thousands of Moroccans flooded the streets early Thursday, erupting in celebration after their national U-20 team secured an unprecedented spot in the FIFA U-20 World Cup final.

An Anadolu correspondent reported scenes of jubilation as Morocco triumphed over France 5–4 in a tense penalty shootout, following a 1–1 stalemate in regular time during the semi-final clash.

With this victory, “the Young Atlas Lions” clinched their first-ever berth in the tournament’s final.

Morocco is set to challenge Argentina on Monday, after the South American powerhouse edged Colombia 1–0, courtesy of Mateo Silvetti’s 72nd-minute goal, marking Argentina’s eighth appearance in the U-20 World Cup final.

Chile is hosting the competition for the second time from September 27 to October 19, featuring 24 teams competing across Santiago, Valparaiso, Rancagua, and Talca.
