Amman, Oct. 14 (Petra) – Jordan has been awarded the "Best National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP Medal 2025)" by the Reverse the Red initiative of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The award recognizes Jordan's efforts under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
Minister of Environment, Ayman Suleiman, received the medal during an international event held at the World Nature Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi, attended by representatives from global biodiversity initiatives and organizations.
Suleiman stated that the award honors Jordan's work in developing and updating its National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (2025–2050), which aligns national objectives with the four main goals and 23 sub-targets of the global Kunming–Montreal framework, serving as a regional model.
He highlighted that the recognition reflects Jordan's commitment to protecting species and ecosystems, enhancing environmental sustainability indicators, and involving local communities in conservation efforts. The achievement further strengthens Jordan's regional leadership in national planning and monitoring progress toward CBD targets.
Suleiman emphasized that the award is the result of collaborative work among government institutions, civil society, and national experts, affirming the ministry's commitment to implementing the strategy in line with the Economic Modernization Vision and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Reverse the Red initiative is a global partnership launched by IUCN and a network of international experts to unify efforts against biodiversity loss, supporting national biodiversity action plans and enhancing scientific monitoring tools to achieve the goals of the Kunming–Montreal framework by 2050.
