Andrej Babis Forms Coalition Government

(MENAFN) Former Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis has declared the formation of a coalition administration after his political group, ANO, secured a win in the recent national election.

This new alliance will bring together ANO with two other political factions: the far-right Freedom and Direct Democracy Party (SPD) and the conservative Motorists party.

As reported by a media outlet, Babis confirmed the coalition arrangement following discussions with the heads of both SPD and the Motorists party.

The populist figure stated that the forthcoming government will consist of 16 members. ANO will dominate the coalition by overseeing nine ministries, including the office of the Prime Minister.

Babis further noted that the SPD, which will manage three ministries — notably the Defense Ministry — is also set to nominate a candidate for the role of Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies.

Additionally, he mentioned that the Motorists party will control four ministries, among them the Foreign Ministry.

He also indicated that plans to establish new ministries are under consideration.

Although the specific individuals to fill these roles have not been revealed yet, the newly formed Cabinet is projected to assume office on November 3.

The parliamentary elections, which took place on October 3 and 4 to elect 200 representatives to the lower house, resulted in a victory for Babis’ ANO party, which garnered 34.51% of the votes.
