Erdogan Arrives in Egypt for Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan touched down in Egypt on Monday to participate in a significant peace summit scheduled in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
At the airport, Erdogan was greeted by Egypt’s Culture Minister Ahmed Fouad Hanno, Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhy, Turkey’s Ambassador to Cairo Salih Mutlu Sen, alongside other embassy personnel.
Joining Erdogan were several top officials including Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, head of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Ibrahim Kalin, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, and Chief Advisor on Foreign Policy and Security Akif Cagatay Kilic.
Invited by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, Erdogan and his delegation made their way to the International Convention Center in Sharm el-Sheikh, where discussions will focus on the ceasefire agreement reached in Gaza.
The Turkish leader is anticipated to participate in the formal signing of the Sharm el-Sheikh Agreement and engage in talks with other leaders attending the summit.
Over 20 global leaders are expected to join the summit, which will be jointly chaired by Trump and President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt.
According to Egypt, the purpose of the summit is “to end the war in the Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to bring peace and stability to the Middle East, and usher in a new phase of regional security and stability.”
The initial stage of the Gaza ceasefire agreement came into force on Friday, following Trump’s initiative to conclude a two-year conflict between Israel and the Gaza Strip.
